Review

The goal of the game is to protect the Earth from aliens;
UFO: Alien Invasion is a game that is a mixture of real-time strategy and tactical RPG, continuing the ideas and traditions of X-COM. The game takes place in the year 2084, the player will have to manage a secret military organization dedicated to protecting the Earth’s population from alien invaders;
The game combines military realism with science fiction and a dramatic alien invasion;
There are two game modes: Campaign/Strategic (Geoscape) and Skirmish/Tactical also known as Battlescape;
The Geoscape mode is a strategy. The player manages troops, builds buildings, manages finances. The protagonist also explores new technologies for their further use against aliens. After earning a certain amount of money, the player hires troops and aircraft to destroy the enemy. In Geoscape mode, time buttons are used, which allow you to control the passage of time. For example, a player can pause while reading important messages;
In tactical mode, the game is a tactical role-playing team game. The protagonist gives commands to his subordinates, hired and equipped in Geoscape mode, performs assigned missions fighting with aliens. Instead of managing huge territories on giant maps, the player uses only a team of soldiers chosen by him earlier. During the missions, the player usually has to save civilians who are destroyed by aliens. The tactical mode uses a turn-based combat system, where the player’s team, aliens and civilians take turns making their moves. During the turn of the people, the player can order the soldier to move to a certain place, attack the enemy, etc. During the turn, each soldier has a certain time for his action. Once a soldier runs out of his time, he can’t do anything else until the next turn;
There is a training mode;
There is a possibility of a network game;
It is possible to customize the video: select the resolution, enable/disable full-screen mode, enable/disable FPS display, adjust textures, light and shadows. Audio settings: turn on/off the sound, set the music volume level, turn on/off sound effects. Gameplay Settings: the speed of movement/rotation, turn on the joystick, see the keyboard shortcuts used.
