Live Captions – application that provides real time automatic subtitles for the Linux desktop. Free and open source graphics program

Review

Only the English language is supported currently. Other languages may produce gibberish or a bad phonetic translation.

  • Subtitles for desktop/microphone audio locally based on deep learning;
  • No API keys, no proprietary services/libraries, no telemetry, no spying, no data collection, does not use network permissions;
  • Font settings (font selection), font size and switching of uppercase/lowercase letters;
  • Less confident text becomes faded (darkened), this feature can be disabled;
  • Keep the program window on top of other windows;
  • You can adjust the width and transparency of the program;
  • Support for saving history;
  • Filtering slurs and profanity.
