Eye of GNOME – free and open source Gnome image viewer for Linux



Review

  • With it Eye of GNOME, you can view single image files, as well as large image collections;
  • The Eye of GNOME supports a variety of image file formats: ANI, BMP, GIF, ICO, JPEG, PCX, PNG, PNM, RAS, SVG, TGA, TIFF, WBMP, XBM, XPM;
  • The Eye of GNOME also allows to view the images in a fullscreen slideshow mode or set an image as the desktop wallpaper;
  • The program can save images in .tiff, .png, .jpg, .ico, .bmp formats;
  • Eye of GNOME automatically rotate your images in the correct portrait or landscape orientation;
  • Support for interpolation/smoothing when the image is enlarged;
  • You can show/hide panels: a sidebar with information about the file, an image gallery, and a status bar;
  • There is automatic scaling of the image when changing the size of the program window;
  • You can rotate the image clockwise or counterclockwise;
  • Plugin support;
  • Support for keyboard shortcuts.

Plugins:

  • Exif Display. Displays a few camera setting Exif tags in the sidebar and optionally the status bar. A histogram can also be enabled;
  • Map. Displays on a map in the side panel where the picture was taken. Pictures need to contain geolocation EXIF data;
  • Postr. Support uploading photos to Flickr;
  • Python Console. A python console for Eye of GNOME;
  • Send by Mail. Sends an image attached to a new mail;
  • Slideshow Shuffle. Shuffles the photos in slideshow mode;
  • Zoom to fit image width. Adjusts the zoom to have the image’s width fit into the window;
  • Light theme. Disables Eye of GNOME’s preference of dark theme variants;
  • Hide the title bar. Hides the window title bar if the window is expanded to full screen
  • Show EXIF data. Shows camera parameters and a histogram;
  • Random slide show. Shuffles images in slide show mode.
