Hamster is a free and open source program that allows you to keep track of the time of all events of the day in Linux



Review

  • You can add a description, start and end date and time, category, class type name, and tags to the activity;
  • You can group/sort an activity: day, week, month, or any other desired time period;
  • There is a possibility to view statistics (i.e. how much time has been spent on a particular activity);
  • Export data activities in the HTML Report, Tab-Separated Values (TSV), XML, and iCal;
  • You can configure time tracking parameters: add/edit/delete categories, activities, and tags;
  • Full-text search is available; You can sort activities by categories (@) and tags (#);
  • Data entry with auto completion of recent activities is available.

Installation

The software Hamster is available for installation on Linux.

Install Software via Snap package

sudo snap install hamster-snap

Tips:

  1. Make sure to snap connect hamster-snap:system-observe or do the equivalent in your respected software center(with snap plugin enabled) before launching the gui.
  2. If you have launched the older version or without the plug, make sure to kill the two background hamster-*-service before launching again, both services will be python processes.
