Kupfer is a free and open source utility for quickly and easily launching programs and opening files in Linux



Review

  • Kupfer allows you to search and launch programs, search and open a file/website, search in Wikipedia, search through Firefox bookmarks, search for Thunderbird/ Pidgin contacts, use a calculator and much more (see Settings —> Plugins);
  • The launcher is controlled via the keyboard: you need to enter the name (part/fragment) of the program, directory, file, and other;
  • To open the input window in the Kupfer launcher, use the keyboard shortcut: CTRL+space;
  • It is possible to select directories/folders to search for files in them;
  • Integration with the system tray;
  • It is possible to enable autorun (automatic launch of the launcher when logging in);
  • Plugin support;
  • Support for customizable keyboard shortcuts (hotkeys).
